A construction outsider has been appointed to head the Major Contractors Group.
Bill Tallis, a former director of engineering and projects with BP Chemicals, will succeed MCG director Jennie Price next month.
During his life-long career with BP, Tallis was responsible for bringing in management techniques now being adopted by the construction industry, including benchmarking and supply-chain management.
A spokesperson for the Construction Confederation said that Tallis had also worked closely with the government, playing a leading role in the negotiation of an energy-saving agreement for the chemical industries with the DETR.
