Developers invited to bid for 300 homes plus community facilities near Newcastle-under-Lyme
English Partnerships is inviting developers to build 300 homes and community facilities near Newcastle-under-Lyme, Staffordshire.
The 9.6ha site used to belong to the Silverdale colliery and will be part of an urban extension to Silverdale village.
The residential units will provide 25% affordable housing, made available through Newcastle-based Aspire Housing Association.
Next to the 300 homes will be a village square, three children鈥檚 play areas, two sports pitches and landscaped water course running through the development.
Planning permission for the scheme was granted in 2006, after English Partnerships鈥 National Coalfield Programme acquired the land in 2002.
A developer will be appointed in June 2008 and construction work on the homes is expected to start in spring 2009.
Peter Murray, English Partnerships鈥 area director for the West Midlands, said: 鈥淭he regeneration of Silverdale Colliery represents a fantastic opportunity to create a high quality new residential environment with significant amenities for local residents.
鈥淭he new homes will complement our work with Newcastle Borough Council and Staffordshire County Council to regenerate the whole site with a new country park and the successful Silverdale Enterprise Park.鈥
