Questionnaire seeks grounds for new investment
The South East Centre for the Built Environment (SECBE) has released a questionnaire through Envirowise to find out whether the construction industry needs a cash injection to comply with Site Waste Management Plans (SWMPs) introduced in April this year.
Envirowise, the government-funded programme which aims to help businesses better use resources, said it wanted to gauge the financial impact of the regulation.
“We are hoping to ascertain a true picture of understanding and implementation of the SWMP regulations with a view to assessing whether further investment is needed to support the construction industry in achieving full compliance and to quantify the cost benefits that can be achieved through the efficient management of resources," it said in a letter.
The Institute of Civil Engineers, the Chartered Institute of Builders are also promoting the survey. None of the organisations could be contacted for comment.
SWMP have been a legal requirement on all jobs above £300,000 since April 1, 2008. Industry figures estimate that materials to make one in every five houses end up as waste.
All businesses are invited to fill out the questionnaire which can be found .
