The Eden Project beats the Gherkin to top a poll of the UK鈥檚 20 favourite new buildings.
The Eden Project has been voted Britain鈥檚 favourite building in a poll commissioned by ConstructionSkills.
In a shortlist of 20 buildings built in the last ten years, the Eden Project was the clear winner with a 40% lead over the Gherkin in Central London.
The McLaren Technology Centre was placed third in the Yougov poll, which questioned 2,000 people.
The nationwide poll demonstrated some regional impartiality with half of those in the Tyne Tees region favouring the Gateshead Millennium Bridge and 45% of respondents in Scotland opting for the Scottish Parliament.
Chief Executive of the Eden Project Tim Smit said: 鈥淓den was built for the nation so obviously we鈥檙e tickled pink that it has found such a place in the heart of the great British Public.鈥
鈥淏ritain is in the middle of a real flowering of creative talent in architecture, design and construction that is going to change the way we look at ourselves and our built environment forever.鈥
CITB-ConstructionSkills commissioned the poll to highlight its campaign to encourage more quality recruits into construction.
