Council proposal will see existing buildings make way for eco-scheme featuring housing, shops, restaurants and a school
Plans to build London鈥檚 largest eco-village in the heart of Kensington have been put forward by the local council.
The development on Warwick Road would house a school and GP clinic as well as shops, restaurants and housing, half of which would be affordable.
Proposals for the 10.4 acre scheme include green roofs, rainwater collectors, parking for bicycles and charging points for electric vehicles.
It is hoped the development would get 20% of its energy from solar panels and wind turbines.
A park and wildlife pond are also included in the application as well as plans to redesign the roads to encourage green living.
The scheme, which has been put forward by Kensington and Chelsea Council, has undergone a six week public consultation and will now be considered by councillors.
If given the go-ahead, the development would see four large buildings replaced, including Charles House on Kensington High Street and the Empress Telephone Exchange.
