Bill Dunster, the architect behind the low-energy BedZed development in south London, received an OBE for services to sustainable housing in the Queen’s birthday honours last weekend
Dunster was among a number of construction industry figures receiving honours, including Donald Insall, founder of Donald Insall Architects, who got a knighthood for services to conservation architecture, the highest honour to be bestowed on a construction figure this year.
Douglas Oakervee, the former chairman of Crossrail and Jean Venables, president of the Institution of Civil Engineers both got CBEs.
Among others recognised for services to the industry were Mark Andrews, the former chief executive of M&E contractor NG Bailey, Nelson Ogunshakin, chief executive of the Association for Consultancy and Engineering and Richard Ogden, chairman of Buildoffsite, who all received OBEs.
Michelle McDowell, structural engineering director of ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Design Partnership was also awarded an OBE, as was David Henderson, managing director of Tobermore Concrete Products, Deborah Smith, director of BRE and David Hardy, founder of the Considerate Constructors Scheme.
