Gasholder project will include new garden and leisure space

Developer Avanton is behind plans to turn a grade II-listed Victorian gasholder in south-east London into new gardens and open space on the Old Kent Road.

The 48.5m high frame of the gasholder, built between 1879 and 1881, will be retained with plans for a pavilion, water feature and gardens put in the vacant space at its base. Architect on the scheme is Farrells.

Marylebone-based Avanton now owns three plots on the Old Kent Road which will see more than 2,000 homes, along with commercial and leisure space, built.

Over 1,100 of the homes will be built at the developer’s Ruby Triangle site on the road.
