Continued extension of Green line pushes opening date back to late 2010
Continued extension of Green line pushes opening date back to late 2010.
The Dubai metro project has been hit by delays, which will see one line open around nine months late.
The Green line was due to open in March next year but will now open towards the end of 2010. The line is being built by Dubai Rail Link. The engineers are Parsons International and Systra.
The reason for the delay, according to local press reports, is that the line has been extended massively from the original plan.
When the project started in the first quarter of 2006 the line was to be 17km, but this went up to 23.9km, and more recently a further 11km has been added to cover the route from Al Jaddaf to International City, bringing the line to just under 35km.
Plans for the fourth line, the Purple line, are also likely to be changed. This 49km, 10bn dirham route will provide link Dubai International and Jebel Ali airports.
The first line of the Dubai metro, the Red line, opened on 9 September.
