Ministry of Justice made 鈥檛ough decisions鈥� to meet the required 50% cut in capital spending

The Ministry of Defence capital spending cuts of 7.5% were not unexpected. About 拢350m will be cut each year from Defence Estates budget through estate rationalisation, and the 拢14bn St Athan training academy has been scrapped.

The Ministry of Justice said it had to make 鈥渢ough decisions鈥� to meet the 50% cut in capital spending, and plans to build a new 1,500-place prison scrapped its London estate was reduced from 18 to four buildings.

On the other hand, there was 拢1.3bn capital funding for maintaining the estate and for new capacity.
