Construction boost expected from 'most ambitious NHS project ever undertaken'

Currie & Brown is seeking bids to create 鈥渙ne of the most ambitious projects in Scotland.鈥

Client NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde (NHSGGC) promises a 鈥渂oost鈥 in construction activity in building the 拢800m hospital complex. The new 1,109-bed adult hospital and a new 240-bed children鈥檚 hospital, together with a major laboratory will be built in South Glasgow.

NHS heads said they hoped the hospital will bring regeneration benefits to the local Govan area.

Robert Calderwood, NHSGGC鈥檚 Acute Division chief operating officer, said: 鈥淎s the most ambitious NHS project ever undertaken in Scotland, not only will many thousands of patients and staff benefit from the development, but given the current economic downturn, the timing of this project could not be better.

The project will undoubtedly give the construction industry and the wider local economy an enormous boost.鈥

James Hackett, director, Currie & Brown said innovative procurement was needed to tackle the hospital

鈥淎s the largest publicly-funded investment in health services in Scotland, the project is at the leading edge of procurement and is the next major step in realising the vision of the Acute Services Review for NHS Scotland in Greater Glasgow and Clyde.鈥
