Westminster council approves plans for Bond Street station scheme
Crossrail and Great Portland Estates have had their plans approved for the first over-site development above a Crossrail station.
Westminster council authorised the scheme, which will be located at the eastern exit of Crossrail鈥檚 Bond Street station at Hanover square. The mixed use scheme will span 300,000ft2 and will include retail, commercial and residential units.
Planning approval was also granted for the new Crossrail ticket hall at Hanover Square. Preparatory works for the hall have already commenced with main construction scheduled to commence next year. Great Portland Estates will be responsible for building the over-site development once the Hanover Square ticket hall is completed.
A separate planning application for an over-site development at the western end of the station is due to be submitted by Grosvenor and Crossrail later this year.
David Allen, finance director at Crossrail, said:
鈥淭his is the first in a number of significant schemes being made possible by the new Crossrail stations.
鈥淐rossrail has created an opportunity to develop a new Masterplan for this prominent 1.3 acre site in Mayfair. The plans include a mixed use over-site development above the entrance to Crossrail鈥檚 Bond Street station in Hanover Square.
鈥淪ites above other Crossrail stations are being developed to ensure we take advantage of the regeneration opportunities Crossrail is bringing to London and to ensure that the new railway plays a full role in creating an improved urban environment.鈥
