Crossrail is planning to redesign two or more of its stations to make a saving of up to 拢130m on the 拢16bn project

Crossrail is looking at replacing direct underground access from the new ticket hall at Liverpool Street station to the mainline station with a street-level link, saving an estimated 拢100m.

It would mean that passengers would have to exit the Wilkinson Eyre/Mott MacDonald-designed station to transfer to mainline rail services to Essex or other underground lines.

A source close to the matter said the decision was sensible because most people using the station were likely to get off and go to work in the area.

Meanwhile, 好色先生TV Design Partnership has been asked to work up a bridge to replace the proposed tunnel linking Whitechapel Crossrail station with the District and Circle lines. This would save 拢30m.

Switching to a bridge, which will go over the East London line, will avoid having to change the existing District line platform.
