Rogue property companies should be named and shamed, a report commissioned by the government says

The study, by Colin Jones, a professor at Heriot Watt University, says the names of bad estate and letting agents, home information pack providers, caravan parks and private search firms should be publicised.

He recommends that letting and managing agents should be regulated in the same way as estate agents and every branch should have a qualification from an accredited body.

Tenants should be protected from eviction while they make complaints against their landlords, he adds.

The study, published on Monday, follows the Consumers, Estates Agents and Redress Act which introduced wider regulation across the property sector.
