Appeal to prevent former steelworks site being granted town-centre status is turned down.
Housebuilder Wilson Bowden has welcomed a ruling by the Court of Session to allow the regeneration of the Ravenscraig steelworks site in Lanarkshire.
Standard Life and Land Securities had appealed to the Court to overturn the Scottish Executive鈥檚 decision to give the site town-centre status, but the Court rejected the appeal, removing a significant obstacle to the redevelopment plan.
Ian Robertson, chief executive of Wilson Bowden, said: 鈥淲e warmly welcome the decision by the Court of Session. [Town-centre status] forms an integral component of the sustainable redevelopment of the area.鈥
The development at Ravenscraig will include 3500 new homes, 1m ft2 of retail and leisure facilities, and 2m ft2 of industrial and business space.
