Plans by Alison Brooks Architects and HTA Architects would see 600 new homes built
The London Borough of Barnet has selected Countryside Properties, working with housing association L&Q, as its preferred partner for the proposed regeneration of the Dollis Valley housing estate in Chipping Barnet.
Based on a masterplan design by Alison Brooks Architects and HTA Architects, the proposals involve the construction of around 600 new, mixed-tenure homes in a range of designs and sizes.
The properties would be designed to suit the differing needs of families, and would be built to a minimum of Level 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes.
Half of the homes would be traditional houses with gardens, and over 200 of these would be affordable rented homes.
New green spaces and community facilities are also planned, including a community centre, a nursery, and office and retail space.
Construction of the scheme would take place in 5 phases, with the first potentially getting underway by 2013. However, the existing 1960s estate will have to be demolished before building can begin.
Michael Hill, new business director at Countryside Properties, said: 鈥淥ur proposals feature high quality urban design that has been inspired by a very clear and ambitious vision of a sustainable suburb to provide a place where people want to live.
鈥淲e have worked very hard to produce a scheme that is not only deliverable, but will meet the council鈥檚 aspiration of securing more family homes. In this way we will be able to integrate the project into the wider Chipping Barnet community.
鈥淲e now look forward to working closely with the Council, local residents and local groups to make a start on the regeneration of Dollis Valley as soon as we can.鈥
Jerome Geoghegan, Group Director of Development & Sales at L&Q said: 鈥淚t is fantastic news to have been selected as the preferred partner for this project. Our regeneration plans for Dollis Valley will create high quality homes and new community facilities. L&Q is committed to partnership working in order to deliver new homes and we look forward to continuing this work with local residents and the Council as we progress with our plans.鈥
