Gpvernment predicts decrease in spending on new housing and upgrades
Local authorities’ spending on housing is set to drop by £500m during this year, new figures show.
Capital expenditure on housing will go down to £5bn in 2008/9 from £4.5bn in 2007/8, the government predicted. The 2007/8 figure included £500m paid when Liverpool City Council sold its housing to a housing association.
Spending also dropped by £27m between 2006/7 and 2007/8.
Councils received £1.69bn in 2007/8 from housing, largely from sales.
