Bath and North East Somerset council offices raided by fraud squad.
Bath and North East Somerset building and engineering services department has been raided by fraud squad officers, and documents have been taken away for analysis. According to the Bath Chronicle there has also been a second raid of council offices, and two private addresses.
Neither the council 鈥� which has pledged to cooperate fully with the police 鈥� nor the police themselves have specified the exact nature of the investigations, but they are believed to date back as far as 2002. There is no involvement with the Bath Spa project.
The buildings and engineering services department employs heating engineers, electricians and plumbers to carry out work on the council's buildings and schools.
A police spokeswoman said: "The investigation is still in its early stages and, for operational reasons, we cannot give any further details about the investigation."
No indication as to the likely length of the investigation was given.
