Trial will beam information to vehicles in pilot scheme for Highways England
Costain is to install roadside technology which will send traffic information to vehicles on two roads in Kent.
Under the A2/M2 connected corridor contract, Costain will design and fit one of the UK鈥檚 first so-called pilot connected vehicle corridors for client Highways England.
Trial vehicles will be fitted with on-board tech that can pick up wireless communication from roadside units, allowing drivers to receive information relating to road works, road conditions, temporary speed limits and time remaining before a traffic light turns.
The job will see Costain work with the Department for Transport and use data supplied by Transport for London, Highways England and Kent County Council to deliver the roadside technology.
Mike Wilson, an executive director at Highways England, said, 鈥淸This] has the potential to improve journeys, making them safer and more reliable by providing real-time, personalised information directly to the driver.鈥
Costain is due to unveil its interim results tomorrow (Wednesday).
