Planning meeting for Mann Island was delayed to allow World Heritage officials to review the designs
Architect Broadway Malyan’s controversial scheme on Mann Island in Liverpool is set to go before a planning committee today.
The £120m waterfront scheme, on the site of Will Alsop’s failed 'cloud' project, is expected to receive planning permission from Liverpool Council.
In August CABE criticised the commercial building in Broadway Malyan's design saying it was unconvinced by the form, materials and the effect on its immediate context.
The three wedge-shaped buildings, two of which will be residential, sits next to Danish architect 3XN’s contentious X-shaped Museum of Liverpool.
Developers Neptune and Countryside Properties claim the building, on a site dubbed the Fourth Grace, will frame views of the cities Three Graces – the Port of Liverpool ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV, Cunard ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV and the Liver ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV.
The planning meeting was delayed to allow World Heritage officials to review plans for new developments in the city. Opponents to the scheme have said the modern designs would cause serious harm to the architectural and historic significance of the Liverpool waterfront.
