Competition to launch next spring
Newcastle university is looking for contractors interested in carrying out a £110m student residential scheme.
The university is planning to demolish and replace its Castle Leazes halls of residence (pictured) in the city.
The university said: "As part of the planning for this project we are considering all construction options and methodologies available to us.
"The university is issuing this [notice] to invite interested parties to participate in pretender discussions to enable the university to understand and progress with the most appropriate procurement route."
It issued a Prior Information Notice on the Official Journal earlier this week.
The redevelopment will provide up to 2,000 student bedrooms in a mixture of catered and self-catered options with related infrastructure and services.
The site is located next to Leazes Park and is a 15-minute walk from the university's main campus.
Interested firms are set to attend an open day next February, with the university planning to launch the competition for the job the following month.
