Construction firms accounted for 21% of all businesses going into administration in 2009, according to accountancy firm Deloitte

Despite that, 5% fewer companies failed than in 2008. Out of a total of 3,188 companies that went into administration last year, 683 were from property or construction, compared with 716 in 2008. Lee Manning, a partner in Deloitte, said that although administrations were down in the final quarter of 2009 there would probably be 鈥渁 modest increase鈥� in the first quarter of 2010.
