Three out of 11 jobs at the department are to go

Three out of the eleven-strong team at BIS are being made redundant, while everyone will have to reapply for their own jobs.

The jobs are of the 鈥渉igher executive officer鈥 rank and the department, led by Vince Cable, Secretary of State, emphasised the sector was not being hit any harder than any other.

A BIS spokesperson said:  鈥淏IS is undergoing an important restructuring process to allow us to become smaller and more flexible, so we can manage with fewer resources and be even more focused on priorities. Reductions in the construction team are in line with those across the department.

鈥淲e have launched a new voluntary redundancy scheme open to all core BIS staff. This is necessary so that the department can work within its spending review settlement. We are committed to retaining the right skills and experience to ensure the department maintains a high-level of performance and continues to deliver the government鈥檚 agenda for economic growth. This will be taken into account in the application of the scheme.鈥
