Ministerial briefs confirmed at the new Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy department
The government has finally named its new construction minister - Jesse Norman MP (pictured) - who will also be responsible for a raft of industrial and energy policy, including nuclear and shale gas.
The newly-created Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS) department - led by secretary of state Greg Clark - confirmed its ministerial portfolios this morning, including the briefs for climate change and energy efficiency.
Norman takes over the construction portfolio from Nick Boles. His wider remit also covers industrial policy for technology, infrastructure, aerospace, professional services and the rail supply chain.
He will also support the new minister of state for energy and intellectual property - Baroness Lucy Neville-Rolfe - on energy policy, specifically nuclear and oil and gas, including shale gas.
Neville-Rolfe will lead on energy policy in general, including low carbon generation and energy security.
Nick Hurd MP has been named minister for climate change and industry, with responsibility for carbon budgets, meeting climate change targets, and the green economy, including the Green Investment Bank.
Margot James MP becomes minister for small business, consumers and corporate responsibility. Her remit includes labour markets including trade union and employment law.
The BEIS department鈥檚 announcement means all the key roles related to construction in Theresa May鈥檚 new government have now been confirmed.
Other key ministers include communities secretary Sajid Javid and his junior minister for housing and planning Gavin Barwell, while Chris Grayling is transport secretary and Robert Halfon is skills and apprentices minister. Meanwhile, Ben Gummer is Cabinet Office minister, with responsibility for the government鈥檚 construction strategy, including procurement, cost-cutting and BIM.
