ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV.co.uk to host an online webinar looking at the effective use of techniques and materials to achieve new hosuing legislation
ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV.co.uk is hosting a free seminar at the end of the month on the best ways of complying with the Code for Sustainable Homes. Three experts, including BRE consultant Simon Jones (pictured right), will offer new perspectives on techniques and materials that will ensure compliance with the regime, which aims to achieve zero carbon new housing by 2016.
The seminar will take place on Wednesday 31 October at midday but is also available to website readers to listen to from our site for a year afterwards. It will consist of 45 minutes of presentations from the speakers, which will include slides that you can download, then around 15 minutes of questions and answers. Users can submit questions to the panel during the presentation.
The Code measures the sustainability of a new home against categories of sustainable design, rating the ‘whole home’ as a complete package, and the key to getting a high rating is to specify the right materials and using them effectively.
The experts offering advice on the code are:
- Katherine Holden, associate director of Arup (pictured left), who works on energy efficient, sustainable design of buildings and developments and has over 17 years experience as a building services engineer designing heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Projects she is working on include the innovative Dongtan project in China
- Simon Jones, senior consultant at BRE is a leading expert on housing and environmental issues. He helps clients deliver all levels of the Code for Sustainable Homes and is a qualified ‘competent person’ on the Code for Sustainable Homes.
- Scott Sanderson, associate director of PRP Architects, has managed the build programme of Sigma Home to the Code 5* specification at the BRE
- Thomas Lane, technical editor at ºÃÉ«ÏÈÉúTV Magazine, who will chair the seminar
