Queen鈥檚 speech sets out intention to build 拢17bn rail link from London to Birmingham
The coalition government confirmed its plans for a high-speed rail bill in today鈥檚 Queen鈥檚 speech.
Speaking in parliament the Queen said: 鈥淢y government will support investment in new high-speed broadband internet connections, enable the construction of a high-speed railway network and reform the economic regulation of airports to benefit passengers.鈥
Accompanying notes published by Downing Street said that the government plans to introduce a hybrid bill for high-speed rail between Birmingham and London. The estimated cost is 拢17bn.
