Cluttons has been appointment property consultant to Oman Airports Management Company as part of the multi-billion dollar project to expand Muscat International Airport.

The government has undertaken a $3bn project to build two new airports in Muscat and Salalah plus a number of regional domestic airports, as part of Oman鈥檚 national development plan.

The expansion is one of the largest infrastructure projects to be undertaken by the government in terms of its value and size.

Cluttons Middle East chief executive officer Ian Gladwin said this was one of the most exciting commercial developments to be announced in the Sultanate.

Philip Paul, head of Cluttons鈥� Oman office, said: 鈥淭his will be a lengthy and in-depth analysis process after which we will be working with the airport鈥檚 selected land use planner 鈥楶lanport鈥� to create the development plan for the 1.8 million m2 of commercial development land which will incorporate the best practices learnt from other 鈥榓irport city鈥� developments around the world鈥�.

The proposed new terminal at Muscat International Airport is expected to be completed in 2012 and have the capacity to handle 12 million passengers annually.

Further expansions are planned in three subsequent phases, which will ultimately boost the airport鈥檚 capacity to 48 million passengers.
