Bust contractor鈥檚 prisons and defence FM work transferred to new firms
More than a third of Carillion鈥檚 UK employees have had their jobs safeguarded since the firm went bust.
But the Official Receiver has also said that nearly 1,000 Carillion staff have been axed since it went bust four weeks ago.
The latest job losses are mainly at the firm鈥檚 construction arm with the Official Receiver confirming a further 59 staff are going bringing the total number made redundant to 989.
A spokesperson for the Official Receiver said: 鈥淓mployment could not be secured for a further 59 employees working on paused construction projects and regrettably they will leave the business later this week.鈥
Deals to transfer prison and defence FM contracts, such as cleaning and catering, to new firm have secured the jobs of more than 4,400 employees of the failed contractor 鈥 bringing the number of jobs saved to date to 6,668.
The spokesperson added: 鈥淥ngoing employment has been confirmed for more than a third of Carillion鈥檚 workforce so far as part of the liquidation. There is a lot of interest from potential purchasers in the contracts the company delivered which will see the number of jobs safeguarded continue to increase.鈥
Carillion employed more than 40,000 staff globally around half of whom worked in the UK. Its head office in Wolverhampton had around 400 staff.
A Facebook support group for Carillion staff has attracted more than 2,100 members. Called Carillion Colleagues Support 鈥 Employee led, the group was created by staff the day after the firm collapsed.
