Japanese architect Shigeru Ban’s new ‘cardboard cathedral’, built in Christchurch, New Zealand, opened to visitors this month
The eye-catching 20-metre long building, made up of 98 cardboard tubes and weighing just 120 kilograms was built as a temporary replacement for Christchurch’s iconic Cathedral, which was largely destroyed by 6.3 magnitude earthquake in February 2011.
The new transitional Cathedral is built to last up to 50 years and can seat up to 700 people.
