Li Keqiang says the two nations have become 鈥渋ndespensable partners for each other鈥檚 development鈥
During a visit by David Cameron, Chinese premier Li Keqiang has said that the country could play a major role in the construction of High Speed 2.
According to The Guardian, Li said at the Great Hall of the People on Monday: 鈥淭he two sides have agreed to push for breakthroughs and progress in the co-operation between our enterprises on nuclear power and high speed rail.鈥
鈥淲e have become indispensable partners for each other鈥檚 development. China and the UK must treat each other as equals.鈥
Speaking to the great hall, Cameron said: 鈥淭he pace and scale of economic development and urbanisation dwarfs the British industrial revolution of two centuries ago. I see China鈥檚 rise as an opportunity not just for the people of this country but for Britain and for the world.鈥
Last week, Cameron stated his support of Chinese investment into HS2, noting previous success with Manchester airport and Hinkley Point nuclear power stations.
Speaking at a Chinese exhibition at the V&A, Cameron said: 鈥淚t seems to be an absolute high-speed revolution taking place [in China], and I鈥檓 looking forward to travelling on a high-speed train when I鈥檓 in China.鈥
China鈥檚 own high speed rail network has seen rapid development since its 2007 introduction, now boasting the world鈥檚 longest total length and longest single high-speed line.
A previous venture into high speed rail resulted in the Shanghai Maglev train, which since its opening in 2004 has been the world鈥檚 fastest train in regular commercial service at 431 km/h.
