Classicist architects Robert Adam and Quinlan Terry have been left off a longlist, unveiled this week, of masterplanners to design Qatari Diar鈥檚 Chelsea Barracks scheme in London
The pair, both said to be favourites of the Prince of Wales, were tipped as frontrunners for the 拢1bn development.
A previous scheme by Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners was withdrawn in June following a reported intervention by Prince Charles to developer Qatari Diar.
Adam said: 鈥淲e鈥檙e disappointed not to be on the shortlist, perhaps because there are some who see us purely as architects rather than urban designers. I have a horrible feeling this will go to a safe, boring right-on sort of architect.鈥
The longlist of 10 teams is made up of Allies and Morrison and Porphyrios Associates; Paul Davis + Partners and Alan Baxter & Associates; Duany Plater-Zyberk; Dixon Jones; Feilden Clegg Bradley; Terry Farrell and Partners; Hamiltons Architects and Patel Taylor; Lifschutz Davidson Sandilands; Robert A.M. Stern Architects; Squire and Partners and Kim Wilkie Associates.
