Consultant ChandlerKBS has secured a contract to provide cost advice on the £4.5m Pont-y-Werin Bridge or People’s Bridge as part of the £1bn International Sports Village scheme in Wales.
The bridge will provide a pedestrian link between the Sports Village and Penarth.
It will complete the six and a half mile Cardiff Bay edge walk, crossing the River Ely between Penarth Marina and the Sports Village.
The bridge will lift twice each hour to allow boats to pass underneath.
Construction has started and is expected to be completed by Spring 2010.
This is the latest project in the International Sports Village scheme which already includes residential buildings, a temporary ice rink and the International standard swimming pool.
The Canoe Slalom is under construction and is due to complete in December.
In the next 5 -10 years the Sports Village aims to be home to a ski slope, a permanent ice rink, restaurants, cinema and family entertainment and sports retail outlets.
The International Sports Village is expected to attract 3.5 million visitors annually with an anticipated spend of £270m.
