Business lobbying group called autumn statement realistic and 鈥榠maginative鈥

The Confederation of British Industry (CBI) gave instant praise to George Osborne鈥檚 autumn statement today, calling it 鈥溾橮lan A Plus鈥 in all but name.鈥

John Cridland, CBI director-general, said: 鈥淭his autumn statement works with the realities of today and provides an imaginative framework for UK businesses as it strives to secure growth and jobs. This is 鈥楶lan A plus鈥 in all but name.

鈥淸鈥 We particularly welcome the new emphasis on capital spending, and the measures to leverage private sector investment on infrastructure for roads and energy.鈥

The business lobbying group also expressed its approval of the chancellor鈥檚 commitment to help businesses in energy-intensive industries such as construction product manufacturers.

鈥淓qually important for jobs and growth is the recognition that the UK鈥檚 energy-intensive users need help as a result of the unilateral increases in manufacturing energy costs from the carbon floor price and electricity market reform,鈥 Cridland said.
