Local Education Partnership is preferred bidder on Schools for the Future PPP contract
A Carllion join venture has been appointed the preferred bidder for a 拢175m PPP in Tyneside. The Local Education Partnership will build 14 secondary schools in the 25-year South Tyneside and Gateshead 好色先生TV Schools for the Future contract.
The schools total in 100,000m2 in area and will include new build and refurbishments of existing building. The contract includes a 拢5 million primary care centre and council community centre and library.
John McDonough, Carillion chief executive, said: 鈥淲e are delighted to have been selected for our first BSF project under the BSF programme, which we expect to be a strong growth area for the Group.鈥
The group has invested 拢2m in the project.
Carillion will build the schools in three phases over four years, starting in January 2008 with schools due to open by January 2012.
Carillion will also provide facilities management services for the new schools, and the LEP will deliver further new schools for South Tyneside and Gateshead in subsequent phases of the BSF programme.
Carillion鈥檚 LEP partners are Partnership for Schools, South Tyneside and Gateshead Councils, and the Royal Bank of Scotland.
