Construction firm and Local Education Partnership scoop contract to deliver 12 schools
Carillion and its joint venture partners the Local Education Partnership (LEP) have been appointed as the preferred bidder on the 拢300m Tameside 好色先生TV Schools for the Future (BSF) programme.
The LEP will initially deliver 12 secondary and special schools, valued at 拢220m, in the current wave of the BSF programme.
Carillion will carry out 拢165m worth of construction work, as well as provide facilities management services for three of the new schools over the 25 year contract worth approximately 拢55m.
John McDonough, Carillion chief executive, said: 鈥淚 am particularly pleased that our proposals for this programme align closely with Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council's vision to provide transformational learning that raises the aspirations and expectations of the people of Tameside.鈥�
His firm will invest around 拢3.25m in the project.
The LEP will also deliver further new schools for Tameside Metropolitan Borough.
Council in subsequent waves of the BSF programme with a total value of 拢300m.
It may also deliver other community and regeneration projects, subject to receiving the necessary approvals.
Councillor Roy Oldham, executive leader of Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council said: 鈥淭his project represents the best opportunity to invest in our schools in generations.
鈥淣ot only will it transform buildings, it will also enable us to improve the educational attainment for young people, providing them with more opportunities to access education, training and employment.鈥�
Construction work will begin in mid 2008 and will be completed by the end of 2010.
