Contractor beats majors to Paddington Station contract
Crossrail has awarded a preparatory works contract for Paddington station worth up to 拢100m to contractor Carillion.
The job will see Carillion build a new Hammersmith and City Line station with step free access, and relocate the taxi rank to a different part of the station. It follows the awarding of demolition works for the job to Carillion earlier this year.
The contractor beat off competition from BAM Nuttall, Bovis Lend Lease, Laing O鈥橰ourke, Morgan Sindall and VINCI for the job.
The work is separate to the main construction of the new Crossrail station beneath Paddington, for which pre-qualification is already underway, as well as Network Rail work to make the station brighter.
Martin Rowark, Crossrail Head of Procurement said: 鈥淭his is a critical contract as these works will enable the main station construction works for the new Crossrail Paddington Station also to proceed as planned.
鈥淭his is also the first contract to be announced since the Government and the Mayor of London reaffirmed their shared commitment to funding Crossrail following the Comprehensive Spending Review, and demonstrates that we are moving forward with delivery.鈥
Crossrail said the contract was worth anything between 拢25-100m.
