Government told energy efficiency scheme cannot be 鈥榟alf pregnant鈥�

The government has been warned it has no ability to limit the number of Green Deals available to consumers when it rolls out the scheme.

Last week that the government has discussed with stakeholders limiting the flagship energy efficiency scheme鈥檚 roll-out in autumn to control its growth.

But Andrew Warren, director of the Association for the Conservation of Energy, has told the Department for Energy and Climate Change (DECC) that as the scheme is a mechanism to enable a market to develop and there was no direct government funding involved it could not be controlled directly by the government.

In a letter to Tracy Vergo, director of the Green Deal at DECC, he said: 鈥淥nce the starting gun has been fired, the Green Deal finance system is either in operation or it isn鈥檛. There is no way that the Green Deal can ever be half-pregnant.鈥�
