Capita Symonds has won a 拢3m contract to design the tunnel entrance for Crossrail where it goes underground in the Royal Oak area of west London.
The firm beat Halcrow, Hyder, Mott MacDonald and Scott Wilson to the 鈥淩oyal Oak Portal鈥 job.
The work will mark the point at which digging will start in 2012 and where the train will begin running underground thorugh a 鈥渃ut-and-cover鈥 tunnel, essentially a roofed-over trench.
Capita will also design a train-reversing facility at Westbourne Park, an extension to the Westbourne Park bus garage and a ventilation shaft at Westbourne Bridge.
The other points at which Crossrail trains will go underground are at Pudding Mill, Plumstead and north Woolwich.
