The revised CDM regulations are to be debated in parliament after Conservative leader David Cameron called for them to be cancelled.
Cameron proposed in an early day motion that the CDM regulations be annulled, and as a result they will now receive a debate in the House of Commons.
Although the regulations have received support from the construction industry, client and property bodies say they place an unfair burden on small and medium-sized businesses, and could leave them vulnerable to prosecution.
The CDM regulations place additional safety responsibilities on the client.
A spokesperson for the Construction Confederation said it had met with representatives of the opposition, and that the debate would not hold up the regulations, which are due to come into force on 6 April.
