Online petition launched on Number 10 website by environmental architects
A petition has been launched on the Number 10 website calling for stamp duty exemption on Passivhaus certified buildings in the UK.
The online petition has been launched by Sussex-based environmental architects Ecotecture.
Founding partner Jake White said the Code for Sustainable Homes receives breaks in terms of government backing whereas Passivhaus is forgotten about to a large degree.
He said: “As a result we felt it pertinent to create a petition to try to help rectify this imbalance. Rather than saying one solution should be in place of the other. Let’s be reasonable and use both when each is appropriate."
Currently the government allows exemption for stamp duty on homes which meet level six of the Code for Sustainable Homes. While the Passivhaus system and Code for Sustainable Homes are not directly comparable the Passivhaus system has created more low carbon buildings worldwide than the code.
