The consortium, led by film production company Fragile Films, was named preferred bidder on Tuesday by the National Film and Television School, owner of the 11 100 m2 Ealing Studios. The consortium also includes Manhattan Loft Commercial, the new commercial arm of the residential developer, and The Idea Factory, a San Francisco-based Internet venture company.
The studio complex includes three sound stages, two silent stages, offices and catering facilities. Burland has produced concept designs to convert the studios to a multimedia digital studio with production facilities.
The scheme is one of the first solo commissions for Burland, who resigned in October from his post as design director of Arup Associates.
The consortium plans to submit a scheme for planning permission in early 2000.
