Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, Chipperfield and Feilden Clegg Bradley among names on shortlist for student centre at London School of Economics

Allford Hall Monaghan Morris, dRMM, David Chipperfield and Feilden Clegg Bradley are amongst the heavyweight names shortlisted to design a student centre for the London School of Economics.

Also on the stellar shortlist are Dublin-based O鈥橠onnell and Tuomey and Norwegian practice 3XN, best known for its work on the Museum of Liverpool.

The six were selected from a total of 133 architects who applied for the job, which will see a new student centre built on the university鈥檚 Aldwych campus. Between them the shortlisted nominees have picked up two Stirling Prizes, an RIAI Gold Medal and over thirty RIBA awards.

Julian Robinson, LSE鈥檚 director of planning and development, said: 鈥淭he shortlist reflects the school鈥檚 desire to secure an exemplary piece of contemporary architecture. As this will be the first new building at our Aldwych campus for 40 years we are looking for something really special that will enhance the student experience and further our aim of creating a world class estate鈥.

The next stage of the competition, being organised by the RIBA鈥檚 competition division, will see each of the six teams come up with concept designs. A winner will be chosen at the end of June.
