Bond Bryan Architects’ new academy is built around a dedicated forum with ETFE roof
Bond Bryan Architects has designed the £20m Bradford Academy around a special "forum" created to encourage debate amongst students.
The 15 x 30m two-story space features a transparent, lightweight and recyclable ETFE roof, similar to the one at the Eden Project.
It has been incorporated into the centre of the 100,000 sq m building with direct access to the atrium, assembly hall, drama studio, dance studio and citizenship area.
John Hope, project architect, said: “There is a great emphasis on light in this building, hence the ETFE roof."
The academy, which opened 10 September, replaces Bradford Cathedral Community College.
It teaches students aged between 11 and 18, and is sponsored by charity Toc H and Bradford Church of England and Diocese.
The contractor was HBG construction.
