London Underground has delayed demolition work at Bishopsgate Goods Yard that was due to start this week as part of the East London Line Tube extension.
The London Railway Heritage Society has intervened over the demolition of the site's historic railway arches. It is seeking a ruling from Tower Hamlets council that would block the demolition for breach of planning approval.
LU said it had informed the society of its decision to start demolition. Alan Thornton, LU's project manager on the extension, said he had been surprised that the society had not threatened legal action.
However, Martin Foley, chairman of the society, said he had been unaware of LU's move and would be consulting his lawyers.
Contractor Botes this week bought fit-out firm Newco Interiors for an undisclosed sum. Botes said it did not intend to make any radical changes to Newco.
