Architect Pollard Thomas Edwards beats Rogers Stirk Harbour and Grimshaw
Rogers Stirk Harbour & Partners and Grimshaw are among the high-profile firms to have been pipped by Pollard Thomas Edwards Architects to an RIBA competition to design a leisure and health centre in north London.
The other finalists in the Finsbury Leisure Centre design competition were Hawkins Brown and Henley Halebrown Rorrison.
The council鈥檚 judging panel said Pollard Thomas Edwards had the 鈥渕ost creative and forward-thinking鈥 ideas for the new civic building.
The judges praised all five teams for the dedication, time and resources they ploughed into their entries which gave them the chance to compare a 鈥渞ange of high-quality design ideas鈥 for the site.
The 拢49m redevelopment will replace the existing 1960s complex with more than 100 council homes and improved public space as well as the leisure centre itself which will accommodate leisure facilities, a nursery and GP鈥檚 surgery under one roof.
