Construction product approval body will use BRE assessment technique under new licensing agreement
The British Board of Agr茅ment (BBA) is to provide environmental profiles of construction products following the signing of a licensing agreement with BRE Global.
The move will enable the BBA, the UK's major approval body for new construction products and installers, to assess products using the same technique developed by BRE for its Environmental Profile Certification Scheme.
The methodology underpinning the scheme establishes a set of common rules for applying lifecycle assessment to UK construction products and a means for presenting "embodied" environmental data.
Greg Cooper, the BBA's chief executive, said: 鈥淕iven the importance now being attached to the environmental performance of construction materials it is vital that the leading certification bodies have the same approach.
鈥淭his licence arrangement with BRE Global will provide both capacity and competition in the market whilst ensuring consistency of conclusion鈥.
The first BBA certificates should start to be appear later this year.
