The 2 ha site, which is 1 km from the £400m Canada Water development and 250 m from the Thames, houses a community hall and a medical health centre. These buildings are to be demolished and replaced by 300 mixed-tenure homes, and retail and community facilities.
The Barratt scheme includes 500 rooms for each hectare of mixed-use residential accommodation – private housing and affordable housing – as well as live–work units. It will have a public square, commercial space, community hall, GP centre, pharmacy, dentist surgery, childcare facilities and fitness centre.

Detailed plans for the schemes will be on display for a week at a public exhibition that starts tomorrow. The selection of a preferred developer is expected to be made by the council executive at the end of June.
