Contractor the latest in growing number of firms to fork out

Bam has said it is making a one-off cost of living payment with the majority of its 6,000 staff set to get a 拢750 payment in their next pay packets.

The firm joins a list of businesses, including Skanska, Keltbray, Sisk and Galliford Try, that are shelling out to help workers meet the rising cost of fuel bills and food.

Bam declined to make public what the threshold was for staff to pick up the payment but previously firms have tended to pay out for those earning 拢50,000 or less.

In an internal statement the company said: 鈥淲hile we know we can鈥檛 fix the cost of living crisis, we do want to try to support and ease some of the burden you are experiencing now and in the coming months.鈥�

The firm, which last week won a 拢84.5m scheme to build anew mental health unit near Rhyl in north Wales for Betsi Cadwaladr University, will make the payment in November.

Last month, Skanska said it was paying out 拢750 to around 1,300 members of Skanska鈥檚 UK team while Sisk is giving 拢900 to its 620 UK staff. Keltbray has also handed more than 1,100 of its near 1,700 staff a 拢1,000 payment while Galliford Try is paying 拢750 to 1,800 of its 3,300 employees.
