Scheme for University of Central Lancashire to start early next year

Bam has been appointed to build an engineering facility in Preston for the University of Central Lancashire.

The new building is the first under a £200m masterplan drawn up by architect Allies & Morrison with work on the £30m scheme due to start early next year. It is expected to be completed the following year

Called the Engineering Innovation Centre, the facility is designed to bring expertise from academia and industry together under one roof with technology demonstration areas and specialist work areas to create an integrated space for teaching, research and knowledge exchange.

The scheme will cost £30m and open in 2018

The building has been designed by a team featuring local practice Simpson Haugh, the company behind the city’s Beetham Tower, and Scottish firm Reiach and Hall Architects.

The Allies & Morrison masterplan covers the university’s Preston campus and is due to be built out over the next 15 years.

Other schemes in the masterplan include a student support centre and civic square with an architect to design it due to be named shortly.
