Firm breaks London tall building market with 拢110m contract to build Providence Tower in docklands
Balfour Beatty has won a 拢110m job to build a 43-storey tower in London鈥檚 docklands.
The firm said it had been appointed to the job to build the Providence Tower residential scheme for Landor - a wholly owned subsidiary of The Ballymore Group.
Balfour Beatty has been long trying to crack the London tower market, and the building will be the tallest constructed by Balfour Beatty in the UK.
The firm said it would utilise sustainable construction methods, including modularised mechanical and electrical services, constructed off site to reduce on site construction timescales and the number of vehicle movements to and from site.
Balfour Beatty Group chief executive Andrew McNaughton said: 鈥淧rovidence Tower is a great example of the big, complex building projects where Balfour Beatty excels.
鈥淚t allows us to bring together our experience and include sustainable and innovative solutions to create high quality living spaces for communities.鈥
The project included 484 residential units located at New Providence Wharf, by the river Thames, with 343 of the units within the 43-storey tower and the remainder located in a 12-storey curved podium adjoining the tower together with affordable apartments.
A health club will be located on the Lower Ground Floor level and extensive external works will be provided to the whole development.
The main construction works are due to commence this summer and are programmed for completion in December 2015.
