Contractor will build first two phases of Heathrow's new East Terminal for BAA
Balfour Beatty has secured a 拢350m BAA contract for Heathrow鈥檚 East Terminal.
The first two phases of the project will see the construction of the northern and mid sections of the midfield pier, as well as a tunnel linking the pier with Heathrow鈥檚 East terminal.
Passenger transfer travellators and cut and cover tunnels for a track transit system are also planned.
A remote passenger transfer stand, worth a further 拢78m, may also feature in the second phase development, which is due for completion in 2012.
After the completion of phases one and two, a southern extension of the midfield pier is planned, which will bring the company an additional 拢100m.
Ian Tyler, Balfour Beatty chief executive, said: "Having achieved preferred supplier status for BAA's programme of complex building works in the coming period, we are delighted to have secured the planned work on the Midfield Pier project at Heathrow.鈥
